Group Report on October 29 Action Joe Gerber: "We played a 9 on 9 and a 9 on 8 at the Nemodome. It was not very windy, sunny, picturesque, bucolic and downright Ernie Banks-ian." Joe Balento: "There was a full ten on ten turnout yesterday. And two seven inning games. First one a 10 to 2 blowout. My team lost. The second featured a come from behind win from an 8 to 2 deficit. My team won." Ian Lebowitz: "I remember showing up with five others not expecting to have any games played due to the cold weather. But behold, droves showed up at 10 am and we had 20 people ready to play. A vote was taken to move to the other field with the deeper fences and the people spoke and said, "we're staying here!" probably because no one wanted to get back in their cars and drive up there. The games were defined by good pitching, defense and timely home runs. In the first game Jeff pitched against Havelock in a great battle of pitching and defense. In the end Jeff's team won. George hit some deadly home runs. (A scout from the Florida Marlins was on the scene, or maybe it was just some guy in the woods. This report has not been confirmed or denied.) In the second game, George pitched against Gil. George's team was ahead in the latter innings when Gil's team came thru to tie the game, then win in the ninth on Joe Gerber's (I think it was Joe) daring tag up from 2nd base to score the winning run. Gil held on with great pitching to keep his team in the game. I hit 2 homers off of Gil and expected to get beaned in my last at bat, but Gil is no Clemens, he's a gentleman and a safe driver. Marvin as usual supplied the commentary, in one instance while Josh was at the plate in the last inning, he proclaimed "this man is a beast, he has the power to drive the ball out of the park,...." The infield, notably Gil, clearly heard this and implored him to halt the commentary. At least three runners were thrown out for not getting back to first base in time, on fly outs to the outfield. Umpiring of balls and strikes was consistently strange as usual. A new player, Herman made his debut with some hard hitting and added a flavoring of Espanol to the game."
