FROM THE DESK OF IAN LEBOWITZ --

A doubleheader was played on Sunday, November 12 with a group of 15 or so players. The team at the plate supplied the fielding team with outfielders, catcher and umpire to make it a full field each inning.

The games were dramatically different. In the first game, George outdueled Havelock to win 4-1 (I think) in a tight game. Defense and pitching ruled the game. Ian hit the left field sign on his first homer of the day. George pitched out of a bases-loaded jam by getting Joe to pop up in the last or second to last inning.

(Larry, should I expect the usual four-course dinner with soup, salad and a beverage of my choice, or select one of the fine "Hungry Man" entrees? If so, Ill take the turkey breast with the mini apple pie. Those are tasty.)

The second game was a slugfest. Havelocks' team battered Dave in the first inning for 10 runs. Homers were flying everywhere, including Joe Balento, who hit 3 homers on the day. Tony's team clawed back with a few runs then exploded to tie and take the lead by the middle of the game. Derek, who relieved Dave dueled with Gil in a high-scoring, but tight game. The game was extended from 7 innings to 9 innings by general consensus; with a few objections overruled.

Havelocks' team pulled ahead on a homer by Joe Geller (I think) in the 9th and led by 5 runs until Derek hit a grand slam off George. But George settled down to save the game and give Gil the win. 23-22 final score, I believe. Hopefully someone with the stats will write in to confirm.
