DOBBS FERRY: TREE RULE MODIFICATION AND A LOT OF HOME RUNS

It was a beautiful day with 18 players in the first game of 7 innings with Rosengard (6-7) losing to Appell (4-1) 12-6 in the opener. Dan Schneider thought he homered in the middle of the game but where was Larry Savell to clarify the tree rule?  I looked it up later and it seems to be up to the umpire to judge a homer when the ball hits a branch over the field of play.  He ruled the ball was in play but maybe Larry would have said Home run because the modified rule states (look it up on the Web) that if the branches were not there and if the umpire felt the ball would have crossed the fence then it is a home run. Anyway, Larry be there next week. Most homers in the first game were to left and center a couple to right and right center. We finished the last inning at the bigger field in Dobbs Ferry.  Then in the second game Connor (3-3) lost to Hewes (10-7) 27-15.  Bobby
Naranjo came in in relief in the 4th when the score was 20-11.  It was not a save situation.  Everybody was hitting and again a lot of home runs.  This field is 200 feet for a homer and the small field is 180 feet.  Second game had 15 players.  I took the train up and it was 90 minutes from Whitestone going bicycle to subway to Metro-North.  Cost $6.50.  See you next week.
