Dave (Faxed photo courtesy Dave Rosengard) 10/1/2000 Set against the towering splendor of Notre Dobbs with Quasimodo ringing the church bells the men and boys of Riverside Park played autumn softball. In the first game Rosengard and Hewes pitched . The teams were balanced evenly and the outcome was close, 20-16 in 9 innings with Hewes now 13-8 and Rosengard falling to 6-8. Highlights were notable with home runs on both teams. Balento hit a key homer to right over two fences clearing the bases. Savell hit 2 homers, and Robert Rodriques making his debut with his son in Dobbs this year also connected for 2 homers. There was outstanding defense with Karen Mockrin muddying herself in giving Havelock 100% at 2nd base. (She may need laundry detergent supplies before the end of the season.) Derek Martinez made probably the play of the game leaping high in the air the take away a homer in left in the 2nd inning. Tovar made excellent stops at shortstop notably taking a hit away from Savell by stopping a smash, falling down getting up and firing to Cohen at first. Cohen made some great scoops at first and Palma and Inserro made great catches in the outfield killing rallies on Rosengard's team. After Dave, Phil and Jason left at 12:15 for Shea there was a second game going 7 innings with Tony Connor vs. Gil Schmerler. Gil will probably write a column about it. As MLB continues after the end of the season our season seems to never end. See you in Dobbs next week. Return to Softball For The Love Of It Page
