ROSENGARD OUTDUELS HEWES IN THE FIRST 4-1 IN 7 On a warm Spring day, April 22, 2001 we played at Central Park in the 2nd week of the season. Rosengard (1-1) got the W over Hewes(1-2). I had great control and felt great on the mound. I gave up 5 hits in 7 innings. It was a 1-1 tie through 5 1/2 and then Dave's team scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Highlights: Dave's team showed great defense with line drives to 3rd caught by Naranjo; tight plays in the infield and great catches in the outfield. Hewes' team also played flawless defense. In the 2nd game teams stayed the same with one trade. Schmerler was traded for Carey Palmer a new player to our league and also our season's stat person. Palmer played SS and Schmerler pitched. Jeff Appell pitched for Dave's team; his first start. Schmerler (1-0) and Appell (0-0) pitched to a tie each going 8 full innings. The score was 5-5 at the end of 8. The next league took the field at 11:10 A.M. There was more hitting in the 2nd game with a few extra base hits. Schmerler kept the batters off balance with change ups Appell relied on his sinking fast balls and change ups. Again Defense was good, no homers. The first game was finished in a manageable 50 minutes and 2nd game was over one hour. I think if we start a little before 9 A.M. we can get in 2 games before 11 A.M.
