WEEK 3 - APRIL 29, 2001 TRIPLE HEADER On a chilly Sunday morning 28 showed up early for BP and we started early 14 against 14 Rosengard vs. Hewes. Before the game Hewes told me he was eager to win after reading my columns on the net and he did pitching a 2 hitter, walking 2 and with the help of excellent defense defeated Rosengard 5-0 in 7. HIGHLIGHTS: Rosengard gave up 2 homers early to Chris Hall and Robert Rodriques Jr. Early in the game, Rosengard's team suffered defense lapses but shored up rest of the way but Hewes only had worry in the 4th with runners on the corners. Rosengard gave up 9 hits and no BB. 2nd game Appell won against Schmerler 3-0 and gave up a lead off hit to Louis Rodriquez and did not allow a hit the rest of the way. He walked 2 and at one point retired 8 in a row. There were some errors and double plays to erase any threats. "Appell used his fast ball and used the corners never giving up a pitch right down the middle," said Tony Connor. 3rd game on the same field was an inter-league game. Connor spoke to the next league players the 11AMers and since they had enough for one team he suggest SFTLOI play them so he got 10 players and Connor's team won 11-1 in 6. Naranjo umpired the game with a consistent strike zone and not giving the paint to pitchers. Connor was quoted as saying that Hecksher Field #1 is a pitchers field. I think that it is true that the batters feel like they are hitting uphill but I think they will adjust. Winning is exciting but you need excellent defense all the time. See you next week get there early so we can get in 2 games. Return to Softball For The Love Of It Page
