May 13, 2001 GAME 1: HOME TEAM 7, VISITORS 6 Rick Tovar tied the game with a solo homer to left in bottom of the eighth and Dave Rosengard hit the game winning single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as host Rosegard's team rallied to beat Schmerler's visiting team. Gil Schmerler (2-2-1) was going for his 3rd victory of the season and second in a row, took the lead 5-1 into the 5th but the home team rallied back and tie in the bottom of the 8th with Tovar's solo shot. Top of the 9th Rosengard (2-4) set the side down in order and in the bottom of the 9th Geoghan, Cohen and Naranjo reached and with none out the infield was was drawn in as was the outfield for a play at the plate. Rosengard then connected for a extra base hit to center that scored the winning run and was ruled a single. Starting time was 9:05 with 17 players then Naranjo came in the bottom of the 1st. Yates had his debut and Brill and Derek W played also. GAME 2: VISITORS 7. HOME TEAM 5 Phil Kotik (1-0) made his debut winning in 5 against Rosengard/Naranjo 7-5. Honigman and Lang contributed with extra base hits knocking Rosengard out after 3 innings. Naranjo pitched 2 scoreless innings. Home team rallied, falling short in the final 5th. The tree rule -- which this writer thinks should be ABOLISHED -- came into play. With 2 out and tying runs on 1st and 2nd Rosengard hit a foul pop between 1st and home and it hit a tree branch and landed in fair territory and Kotik quickly fired to 1st and Rosengard was out. Rosengard had a mental lapse and stopped running and resumed too late. Highlights: Kotik pitched well. Naranjo made his pitching debut for 2001 season and may be back as a starter or relief.
