JUNE 10,2001 CENTRAL PARK

VISITORS SWEEP DOUBLE HEADER 3-1 AND 3-2

First game managed by Lawrence (visitor) and Connor (home) had Rosengard pitch for the visitor and Appell for the home team. Great defense kept the score close; here is line score:

        Visitor 0 0 0 2 1 0 0 -- 3 6 2

        Home 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 -- 1 5 2

In game 2 Appell was carrying a shutout through 6 2/3. He got in some trouble in the top of the 7th, after getting the first out gave up 2 singles then a line out then a third single loading the bases. Great defense held it scoreless. Then Kotik hit a line shot to right center that a rookie center fielder chased down and with the runners in motion caught the ball and then let it drop out of his glove. 3 runs crossed the plate and Appell lost his shutout. In the bottom of the 7th the home team rallied scoring 1 and then with bases loaded and one out Hewes got Connor to hit into a 5-5-3 DP to end it. Hewes was quoted at the end of the game, "It was a miracle win, I was ready to walk off with the loss."

Highlights in game 2 was Rick Tovar going 3 for 3. Here is the line score;
