July 22, 2001 Mercy Rule in 1st game 20-6 First game was Appell vs. Hewes with Hewes the home team and Appell pitching for the visitors and Rosengard pitching for the Home team. Home team had a weaker offense and defense, basically uneven teams so Rosengard decided to pitch slow slow and even slower and most hitters patiently at the plate pounded the ball and after the first the home team was losing 10-1. Inserro connected for a 3 R homer in the first. Blaukopf connected for a 3 run shot in the 3rd. The game ended after 5. Appell is now 5-5-1 and Rosengard drops to 5-6. Appell pitched well as he picked up the W. In 2nd Game Hewes wins 4th in a row in 8 15-9 Kevin Gallagher started for the Visitors vs. Hewes. Gallagher had a spirited style of delivery with a a lot of spinning pitches and keeping the ball on the corners. Hewes used speed and off speed to keep the opposition guessing. Hewes had a senior SFTLOI infield with Savell at 3rd,Gerber at SS, Naranjo at 2nd and Rosengard at 1st (they referred to themselves as the "Bicentennial Infield," as their cumulative ages eclipsed two centuries), and Hewes on the mound and Robert Rodriques catching. There was plenty of offense and without stats I can't off the top of my head give credit to everyone. I remember Blaukopf made some great catches in short center to rob a lot of hits and Savell and Inserro and Gerber were pounding the ball. Robert Rodriques and Kotik were also hitting as well as Ian and Balento and Vernick. Gallagher left after 5 and Appell pitched to 2 batters in the 6th and was lifted because of a stiff neck and Gil Schmerler mopped up the 6th and 7th. Hewes now 7-3 gets the W while Gallagher 0-1 gets the loss. No line score available because I don't have the stats. See you the 29th. Return to Softball For The Love Of It Page
