8/5/01 Central Park First Game HOME TEAM GIVES HEWES RUN SUPPORT AS HE
SHUTS OUT VISITORS 10-0 IN 7
Schmerler and Balento power the visitors. Schmerler breaking out of a slump
went 5 for 5 scoring three runs. Balento homered in the first knocking out
two runs and had 4 RBI's for the game. Lang also was big in this game with 3
RBI's and a home run. The second of two homers Rosengard gave up in the
first. Lebowitz had 2 RBI's including a SAC. Hewes pitched with great
control getting 14 outs in the in field with 3 comebackers and 1 line out to
the pitcher.
In the second game BALENTO HOMERS AND KNOCKS IN FOUR AS HEWES WINS A
DOUBLE HEADER 14-11 IN 7
Balento went 2/4 with HR and 4 RBI, Schneider went 3 for 3, with a SAC RBI.
Schmerler continued his hitting going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's. Geoghan
spectacular catch in right field and Hewes helped himself out with 3 RBI's
and 3 RS.
The visitors led 10-7 after 5 1/2. Hall led the offense going 4 for 5
with 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Holzwasser went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's. And
Honigman went 3 for 3 with 1 RBI. Appell went 2 for 5 with 4 RBI's. But with
all this offense the game got away from the visitors from the bottom of the
6th. Even with a new defense after Honigman and Lang left and Rosengard was
traded to play first base, the visitors gave up 6 runs before double play
stopped the bleeding. Appell suffered a tough loss.
