September 16, 2001 The was the 2nd week of Dobbs Ferry and we had a moment of silence before the games . This was 5 days after the terrorism attacks in NYC and Washington and Pa. In the first game Appell faced Hewes and Hewes 's team won 8-5 in 9 innings. The strike zone was expanded and became a talked about issue during both games. It certainly helped the pitchers a lot; the batter had to swing at everything. Here is the line score: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E Hewes W 3 0 4 0 0 0 0 1 0 8 14 2 Appell L 0 1 1 2 0 0 0 0 1 5 12 2 Liebowitz homered for Hewes's team and Lawrence, Balento, Appell and Schneider homered for Appell's. In the second game it was Naranjo against Rosengard and Naranjo's team won 15-10 in 9 innings. Here is the line score: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E HR Rosengard L 4 3 0 0 1 0 0 1 1 10 20 2 3 (6-10) Naranjo W 5 0 5 0 5 0 0 0 x 15 19 1 3 (2-0) Lawrence, Vernick, Naranjo and Schmerler got 12 of the 19 hits. A grand slam by Schmerler sealed the victory for the home team. Return to Softball For The Love Of It Page
