CONNOR'S TEAM WINS SERIES IN 7TH
        GAME      6-5
GIL  SCHMERLER  OUT PITCHED  HAVELOCK HEWES AS HE SCATTERED 7 HITS
AS CONNOR'S TEAM OUTSLUGGED HEWES'S TEAM WITH 3 HOMERS AND 2 DOUBLES WHILE HEWES TEAM MANAGED 2 DOUBLES.SCHMERLER(12-4) STRUCK

SERIES  AND CONOR'S TEAM WON THEIR  3RD STRAIGHT WORLD SERIES.

On sunday November 14th 2004 over 20 of us were waiting in the Hasting Field parking lot for Havelock to
come with the decision where we are to play.It was in the 30's and the field had ice in shallow right center.
We opted for the away field in the back and ruled a hit to the woods left of 2nd base was only a double but  not
automatic, you had to earn it and could be thrown out and to the right of 2nd base a hit into the woods was a
home run. After a coin toss Connor team was home and a 2nd  coin toss gave Connor first pick of non roster
players.Schmerler took the mound and in the 1st hewes team scored 2.Holzwasser walked and Hewes singled.
Then 3 fielder's choices and an error produced the runs. Bottom of 1st Rivera solo homered after one out and
Weinberg singled and phil Ciccone homered to make it 3-2.Both team were scoreless 2nd and 3rd and Hewes
team scored 3 in the 4th. Holzwasser singled, hewes singled Santiago doubled,Lorte  sac flied, gerber fielder's
choice RBi made it 5-3.No more scoring until bottom of the 7th when Phil Ciccone led off with a homer to close it
5-4.In bottom of the 8th Connor's team ralled for 2 runs to take the lead 6-4.Schmerler flied out to right,Nick
Rowland singled, rosengard doubled to center Cohen grounded out 4-3 moving rosengard to 3rd and Amoros
singled in the go ahead run to make it 6-4.Gil retired the side in the 9th  and the thrilling game ended. The line:

October 24th,04 World Series game #4 Season game #67
Schmerler wins his 10th W as Connor's team evens series at 2. In this contest at hastings field the field conditions were poor so we moved
to the opposite field
where the infield was grass and the centerfield trees became a big facor in
the game.It was ruled
that a hit that rolled or landed in the wooded area in left and left center
would be a ground ruled
double.Hewes team was the visitors and they had 16 players while connor's
team had 15 players.
Llorte pitched for hewes and Schmerler for Connor. The game was close thru
4;in the 5th Hewes
team scored 5 and led 5-2.Inserro solo homered,Nawaz hit a towering 3 run
shot to left andRich
Rowlands hit a deep shot to straight away center for a solo shot.In the
bottom of the 5th Connor's
team came back with 12 runs and sent 16 batters to the plate.Highlights in
that inning were 6
doubles and a 3 run homer by Carl Weinberg.Schmerler settled down and
pitched shut out ball for
next 3 innings and Derek Martinez pitched the 9th giving up 1 run. Final was
19-6 Connors team.

end this great softball game. The game took 2 hours and 20
minutes.Lloarte(1-3) got the win while

got all the picks first
from the non roster players and selected Santiago,Wade, and Amoros.Connor's
team had 8 starters
and got the remaining 4 non roster
players;Lopez,Mondonado,hersh,Santana.Hewes team was the

was walked to load the bases. Hewes lined out to 1st as Weinberg made an
acobatic catch. Then
Manny Santiago stepped to the plate. He took a couple of pitches and on a

it was hit hard but not too deep ,Cisico Maldonoldo came in and caught the

muggy air.  Brill and Palma the 1,2 hitters in the lineup had 8 hits in 12  at bats scored 5 runs and had

by  Jim O'Connor in Center in the 4th.Jim suffered a broken right wrist in the top of the 5th in a collision
at 2nd base and left the game.Palma  went 4 for 6 with back to back homers in the 5th and 6th with 4  rbis. Both teams played stellar defense.Kostner,Sommers and Schmerler made
outstanding plays on ground outs and pop ups and Fogel,Taramella and Lazyan and Cohen were
equally outstanding. Cohen played errorlessly on 11 plays and unassited on a 12th.Fogel was showing
great range and Paulo playing his 6th career game  handled 5 tough plays at 2B and Lazyan stopped
alot of difficult shots a 3B.Brilll made 2 running shoe string catches and Palma was solid in center.

Season Games 42,43 7/11/04
Game 1:Hewes wins it for his team with 2 RBIs in the 10th to
beat Connor's team  9-8.
In this contest there were 36 hits,97 abs,6 errors,2 DPs and both pitchers had control.
Connor's visitors loaded the bases several times and came up either empty handed  or
with little damage. Rosengard who got the W(10-9) and Appell who got the Loss(4-8)                                         pitched put of a big jam in the 8th;after
Lazyan tripled with the scored tied at 7 he got Cohen to ground out and after a discussion
at the mound with hewes and Weinberg, he decided to walk Connor and  face Schulman with
runners on the corners and 1 out. Schulman hit into a DP to end the threat. In the 10th Connor's
team went ahead 8-7 but Pyne  cut down the runner at 3rd by fielding Cohen's shot to SCF  making
a fielder's choice 10-5. Now with runners on first and 2nd and 1 out and 1 run in I got Connor to
fly out to right to end the inning. In the bottom of the 10th Hewes's team mounted a rally.
Pyne led off with a single,Nawaz singled ,Schmerler K'd bunting out but Weinberg  moved the
runners over with a 4-3 ground out. Then Hewes singled to right and 2 runs crossed the plate to
end this contest. There was one home run. Jeff Fogel a solo shot in the 5th.
Game 2:Connor wins his 8th(8-2) pitching a 5 hitter  7-2
In this 2nd game which was played on 2 fields because of time Connor pitched his 2nd 5hitter in a
row following up a the July 4th triple header. He  got alot of pop ups, ground outs walked 3 and
struck out 1. Hewes(14-11) pitched well until the 6th when he gave up p 4  consecutive hits after  1 out and an e-4.
The players were tired after the 1st and the heat was unbearable in the 2nd field;the sun was
beating  down on the infield. Pyne made some great catches in the outfield 5th to keep the game
close at 3-2.

Game 1Hewes wins 15-7 in 7.Havelock's team had offense and defense as they easily beat Appell's team on the small field next to the regular field. Hasting's locals started today so we played on the northwest field. Our left fielders played on the hiking path and trees in Left absorbed a few home runs.Holzwasser,Reyes and Hall led the offense for Hewes team and Appell led the offense for the losers.20 players crammed into this small field withincreasing numbers of local Hsting people emerging from the woods. We moved the game to the regular field in the 6th as a group anxiously waited on the sidelines to take the field. Before we started there was some controversy about whether it was safe for the hastings players if we played on the small field but the issue was not pressed. Here is the box score:

Game 2 At the end of 3 Full innings the score was 8-1;Schmerler's visitors in the lead. Back at the regular field .this game was ended at 12:15 due to the arrival of a 12:00 league taking the field. Tony and i discussed the rules and he feels it should not count as w-L but just stats for offense , defense and pitching. Hewes had a temper outburst in the bottom of the first and holzwasser got a severe hit to the face fielding a hard shot to short but he stayed in the game and was not seriously hurt; the glove took most of the impact. The stats for the game will be posted by Tony Connor.Schmerler's team scored 6 runs in the 2nd by putting together 7 singles in a row.In the 1st Rosengard started a 1-5-4 DP to end a rally.
